The Room Where Joy Lives

A drive up to Woodinville for the Bridge of Promise annual auction โ€” a charity serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Wild mushroom ravioli, tables clearing $50K, and a Santa Claus nobody saw coming. The members rushed the stage, and a room full of people who came expecting a nice evening found themselves completely undone. Jodi Richey: "If you ever want to know what it feels like to be Taylor Swift, come spend time with our members."

The Long Way to Lose Well

Two nights at Bob Lucey Field. A No. 3 seed down two goals early, an equalizer in the dying seconds, two golden-goal periods, and a 3โ€“2 loss in sudden death. The Bears cramped all over while Silas kept its legs โ€” and after the final whistle, the Rams helped their exhausted opponents off the turf. Aiden in goal both nights, off to Whitman in the fall.

Snow, Sopaipillas, and a Wedding in a Canyon

Six inches of snow on arrival. A prairie dog in the parking lot. Meow Wolf at 10am, Casa Bonita at 6, a 1,000-meter swim in the dinosaur pool. A wedding in Ken Caryl canyon and Aimee's aunt โ€” Walker Texarkana โ€” drinking Coronas sideways while AC/DC played. Red Rocks Friday morning with snow on the peaks and a man bear-crawling the amphitheater.
